Strano ma vero: Esiste un posto in Piemonte, vicino a Biella, chiamato Baraggia e definito come Savana... La Baraggia rappresenta l'ultimo lembo di territorio incolto rimasto tra la pianura e i primi contrafforti pedemontani: per salvaguardare questo ambiente particolare, la Regione Piemonte, con legge regionale n. 3 del 14.01.1992 ha istituito la Riserva Naturale Orientata delle Baragge, la quale, oltre alla tutela ed alla conservazione dell'ambiente baraggivo, è finalizzata alla qualificazione ed alla valorizzazione delle attività agricole presenti nell'area e ad assicurare la corretta fruizione della stessa. L'area protetta così definita è composta da sei porzioni di territorio distinte, distribuite sulle province di Biella, Vercelli e Novara; la Baraggia di Candelo fa parte di questa Riserva.
