La storia del Lago di Resia risale infatti agli anni Cinquanta, a quando, cinque anni dopo la fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, furono completati i lavori di una grande diga per la produzione dell'energia idroelettrica che unì due dei tre bacini naturali del Passo Resia: il Lago di Resia e di Curon, il mezzano. Il Lago di San Valentino alla Muta, più a sud, è rimasto invece nel suo stato originario. L'acqua inghiottì per sempre il vecchio paese di Curon Venosta e parte del comune di Resia, che oggi riposano a 22 metri di profondità. E gli abitanti furono costretti ad abbandonare tutto, case, masi, campi e strade, nonostante le proteste. Emigrarono poco lontano, costruendo la nuova Curon Venosta e una nuova vita.
