La Sprite fu costruita dalla BMC (British Motor Corporation) a Birmingham in Gran Bretagna in 4 differenti serie dal 1958 al 1971. Questa visibile nella fotografia è una Mk I prima versione che fu costruita solo nel 1958 e solo in versione roadster: nel 1959 verrà beneficiata di un restyling. Era dotata di un motore con 4 cilindri in linea di 948 cm3 che erogando 44 cavalli portava la vettura a sfiorare i 130 chilometri orari di velocità massima. Per il posizionamento dei fanali anteriori... a sbalzo... venne soprannominata Frog Eye... occhi da ranocchio.
