Il "portale del drago" (XI-XII sec.) sul lato orientale della basilica di S. Fedele a Como. Il portale è costituito da due montanti istoriati in marmo di Musso di diversa ampiezza (quello di dx probabilmente limitato da un edificio preesistente) e presenta, al posto dell'usuale chiusura ad arco curvo, un timpano cuspidato, sulla cui chiave una sirena senza testa apre le sue due code. La cuspide è marcata da una cornice modanata e da una serie di archetti pensili in pietra di Musso. I lati del timpano evidenziano una fascia di arenaria gialla. Ne risulta un notevole gioco cromatico restituito dalle recenti puliture. La figura in basso, nel mintante sx, sotto l'arco a tutto sesto che significa la protezione divina, rappresenta probabilmente Daniele nella fossa dei leoni; sopra l'arco di Daniele un angelo e, forse, Enoch che riceve dall'angelo il cibo per Daniele. Poi, in un intreccio vegetale, il drago ed altri draghi e bestie che si azzannano e si artigliano e, sul montante dx una caccia, insomma un'intricata birbonaia che mette in scena quelle lotte che fan della natura una matrigna e, in figura, della vita umana, nell'intimo e nella convivenza, un gran casino. Insomma, nell'immagine i nostri antichi ci dicono che fuori dalla protezione divina c'è una foresta oscura e se la dritta via l'è smarrita e ci si trova sull'orlo del nulla e del caos, c'è un arco di salvezza ed un varco per la vita. Guardando questa porta mi son ricordato del vertiginoso libro di Tolstoj, "La confessione". #chiese #romanico #ArchitetturaRomanica #scultura
