SAURON - Last September new moon I wanted to go and shoot in a strange place that recalled Mars, and to do something different, use the steel-wool fire to make the lightpainting. This kind of photography is a bit dangerous, but with no vegetation and rainy storm for all the previous week, fire hazard was low. During location scouting I discovered various spot where let the fantasy work: this is my favorite. A small rocky arch that already looked like an eye but after the fire trick, the resemblance was absolutely mesmerizing. First thing I thought after seeing the preview in camera was the eye of Sauron: an inspiration for the theme of all the following shoots. The shoot was very difficult. Its a pano of 4 horizontal shoot, so I had to do the “stell-wool lightpainting” 4 times and do it consistent through the different part, to make them joint correctly. I'm very proud of the result, particularly because all that you see is 100% real. I made the foreground and the lighting the first night but due the bad weather the sky cleared up too late to have the milkyway in the right position. So instead of correcting it in post I decided to wait another day and night (in the tent under heavy rain) and retry... and fortune favored the bold! Nikon D850 – Tamron 15/30 mm
