Situato lungo la costa orientale della penisola salentina il comune è formato dall'abitato principale di origine medievale , posto su un promontorio a 98 m s.l.m. e dalla parte bassa , Castro Marina sorta intorno al porto . Centro peschereccio e balneare, vanta origini antiche quale erede della romana Castrum Minervae . La parte bassa sorge in un punto della costa salentina ricco di grotte naturali , come la grotta Palombara , la Grotta Azzurra e la Grotta Zinzulusa . liberamente tratto da Wikipedia
