L'ingegnere aeronautico Carlo Chiti (1924-1994) entrò all'Alfa Romeo all'inizio degli anni '50 (dello scorso secolo) dove venne quasi subito assegnato al Reparto Corse mentre nel 1957 divenne progettista presso la Ferrari che stava sviluppando la sua prima vettura di Formula 1 con il motore situato posteriormente: la Ferrari 156 F1. Nel 1961… insieme all'ingegnere Giotto Bizzarrini e ad altri progettisti … diede vita alla bolognese ATS (Automobili Turismo e Sport) che ebbe però vita breve visto che cessò di esistere nel 1965. Nel 1963 la ATS 100... mossa da un propulsore V8 di 1500 cm3... partecipò al Campionato di Formula 1 condotta da Phil Hill e Giancarlo Baghetti. Nel 1966 Chiti rientrò all'Alfa Romeo dove vinse il Mondiale Marche (Campionato del Mondo Sport Prototipi) nel 1975 con l'Alfa Romeo 33TT12 e vi rimase fino a che… nel 1984… fondò a Novara la Motori Moderni insieme all'imprenditore Piero Mancini. Qui nacquero i propulsori V6 di 1498 cm3 turbocompressi che equipaggiarono la faentina Minardi in Formula 1 dal 1985 al 1987: nel 1986… e solo per un paio di competizioni… tale propulsore venne utilizzato anche dalla francese AGS (Automobiles Gonfaronnaises Sportives). In seguito al cambio del regolamento che vietava i motori sovralimentati in Formula 1 la Motori Moderni progettò un propulsore di tipo boxer aspirato di 3500 cm3 con 12 cilindri e 5 valvole per cilindro: il progetto venne finanziato dalla giapponese Subaru. Nel 1989 la Minardi provò tale nuova costruzione senza rimanerne entusiasta così poi… nel 1990… fece lo stesso la Coloni che abbandonò il tutto senza mai riuscire a qualificarsi in nessun Gran Premio della stagione. Tale propulsore venne pure modificato per equipaggiare un motoscafo offshore che ne utilizzava 4 affiancati e simultaneamente. Questa immagine è stata scannerizzata da materiale analogico. La fotocamera utilizzata fu una Canon F1 New dotata di un'obiettivo Canon FD 80-200 f 4 e caricata con pellicola Kodacolor 100 ASA.
