Josele “Zimba” Garza è un pilota nato a Città del Messico nel 1962. A bordo della vettura n. 55... una Penske con motore 8V Cosworth DFX turbocompresso di 2650 cm3... il 24 maggio 1981 partì in 2° fila alla sua prima partecipazione nella 500 Miglia di Indianapolis usufruendo di un “errore” su un documento di riconoscimento su cui era indicata un'età di 22 anni mentre ne aveva solo 19: per regolamento per partecipare alla prestigiosa gara sul circuito dell'Indianapolis Motor Speedway bisogna aver compiuto i 21 anni di età (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q-XD0A7kds). Nel Campionato CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) partecipò ad 88 gare. Nel 1986 guidò per la prima volta una vettura di Formula 1 durante una sessione di prove libere: una Brabham motorizzata BMW… mentre nel biennio 1987-88 divenne collaudatore per la Minardi. Terminata l'esperienza nel Massimo Campionato ritornò in Messico dove iniziò a gestire squadre di Formula 3000 e Formula 2 per poi partecipare solo occasionalmente a qualche gara in differenti Campionati. La Minardi M 188 era dotata di un motore aspirato Ford Cosworth DFZ con 8 cilindri a V di 3.500 cm3.
