Esistono due sottospecie, B. regulorum gibbericeps (Reichenow, 1892), il cui areale si estende dalla Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe e Mozambico e la B. regulorum regulorum (Bennett, 1834), distribuita in Angola, Namibia e Sudafrica.
