In prossimità dell'ingresso principale della Riserva Naturale Regionale Monterano, istituita nel 1988, è possibile vedere un importante geosito, che è anche una piacevole cascata. Il geosito (e la cascata) si trovano presso il limite sudorientale della Riserva stessa, e sono raggiungibili a piedi o in auto dal vicino Canale Monterano. La cascata, nota come cascata della Diosilla, si trova a pochi passi dal parcheggio, percorrendo in discesa la mulattiera (ormai una vera carrozzabile) che si addentra nel territorio della Riserva, per poi discendere un sentiero segnato sulla sinistra (Sentiero natura - Rosso). Dopo poco, guidati dal fragore dell'acqua, possiamo osservare una parete verticale di circa 15 metri circa, superata con un salto dalle acque del Fosso di Fonte Lupo che si uniranno, di li a poche centinaia di metri, con quelle di un fosso proveniente da destra (Fosso della Palombara), per creare il Torrente Bicione, affluente del Fiume Mignone. Nelle vicinanze, nei primi dell'800, si estraeva in alcune miniere zolfo e in quel periodo mentre si scavava una galleria di drenaggio una ragazza del luogo (Diesella) vi cadde. Pare che questa sia la versione originale del nome dato alla cascata (Diosilla), ma molte altre versioni, sicuramente più romantiche, vengono ancor oggi raccontate sulla ragazza che diede il nome alla cascata. Le pareti del Fosso di Fonte Lupo rendono evidente il modellamento operato dalle acque dilavanti e incanalate, che creano le tipiche scarpate di erosione fluviale con lo sviluppo di una valletta stretta e profonda. Il salto della cascata è altresì determinato dall'incontro di un affioramento (una colata piroclastica litoide nota come “Tufo Rosso a Scorie Nere”) che presenta una maggiore resistenza all'erosione rispetto alla colata piroclastica sottostante. In questo fondovalle cresce una rigogliosa vegetazione tipica del clima fresco e umido con felci rare e muschi. Le acque del Fosso presentano spesso una colorazione biancastra dovuta alla presenza di zolfo in sospensione (zolfo colloidale).
