Il geosito della solfatara di Monterano, incluso nei siti del patrimonio geologico del Lazio, è una vasta area mineralizzata lungo il Fiume Mignone, ai piedi della rupe tufacea di Monterano. Si tratta di acque termo mineralizzate con forti emanazioni di vapori di gas nelle vicinanze di vecchie miniere per la produzione di pirite, ferro e marcassite. La portata delle emergenze sorgentizie oscilla tra 0,5 e 2 l/sec, con una temperatura di circa 22 °C. La presenza di sali solfatici impedisce lo sviluppo della vegetazione in corrispondenza dei punti di fuoriuscita: nei dintorni si trovano invece la Poa Annua, l'Agrostis Canina e il Paspalum Distichum, oltre che alcuni tipi di licheni. Da segnalare come motivo di vanto è la presenza di un coleottero, la Cicindela, che normalmente si trova lungo le coste sabbiose, ma che oltre in questo sito si ritrova anche nella caldara di Manziana. Alla spianata su cui ribollono polle di acqua solforosa si arriva dopo un itinerario che parte dalla Cascata di Diosilla, uno splendido elemento naturale dai colori particolari. variabili dal giallo ruggine, al blu al biancastro. Dopo la cascata si attraversano pareti di tufo e archi di roccia naturali immersi in un bosco di querce e rare felci.
