Da sempre simbolo di buona sorte, è l'animale portafortuna per eccellenza. Nell'antichità era un buon segno trovare una coccinella in giardino perché essa limitava la presenza degli afidi, di cui l'insetto si nutre, ed ancor oggi la coccinella viene adoperata quale alternativa biologica per combattere svariati parassiti nocivi per piante e fiori. Nella cultura asiatica, questo animale portafortuna è anche simbolo d'amore: se catturata, infatti, dovrebbe raggiungere la persona amata sussurrando al suo orecchio il nome del “mittente”. In Occidente, invece, una volta che si cattura una coccinella, si esprime un desiderio prima di lasciarla andare. Io ho catturato solo la sua presenza, che basti a portare fortuna a tutti.
