Il Geum rivale L. , comunemente chiamato Cariofillata dei rivi, è una pianta perenne appartenente alla famiglia delle Rosaceae. Fiorisce tra maggio e luglio e si trova, più facilmente in montagna, nei prati umidi ed ai margini dei boschi, oltre che sulle sponde dei corsi d'acqua. Si può trovare in tutta Italia, tra i 200 ed i 2.100 m slm, ad eccezione che in Puglia, Campania, Sicilia e Sardegna dove non è stata mai trovata. Il nome generico deriva dal verbo greco “geuo” (do profumo) perché le radici hanno un buon profumo di chiodi di garofano e cioccolato ed il nome specifico deriva dal fatto che si trova sulle rive dei corsi d'acqua. Il rizoma essiccato viene usato in erboristeria per le sue proprietà digestive e febbrifughe e in America viene usato per degli infusi dal sapore di cioccolato tanto che, lì, la pianta è chiamata “cioccolato indiano”. Scatto effettuato nel mese di Giugno 2021 in Val Duron (Trentino) a circa 1.950 m. slm.
