uno dei gioielli rinascimentali e barocchi di Roma: la Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pace. La chiesa si erge dove anticamente sorgeva Sant'Andrea de Acquarenariis, che prendeva il nome dai venditori di acqua presenti nella zona, i quali dopo aver attinto l'acqua dal Tevere la purgavano dalla sabbia che vi era mescolata. Secondo la leggenda, nel 1480 l'immagine della Vergine che si trovava sotto al portico si mise a sanguinare, dopo essere stata colpita da un sasso lanciato da un soldato ubriaco. Papa Sisto IV si recò sul luogo e fece cambiare il nome della chiesa in Santa Maria della Virtù. La chiesa fu poi chiamata Santa Maria della Pace per commemorare la conclusa pace di Bagnolo che poneva fine alla guerra tra lo Stato Pontificio, Venezia e il Regno di Napoli. Il progetto per una nuova chiesa fu affidato all'architetto Baccio Pontelli, mentre, nei primi anni del 1500 il Bramante realizzò il chiostro e il convento annessi. La cupola fu aggiunta solo nel 1524 su progetto di Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane ed è ornata da stucchi di Pietro da Cortona e da pitture del Peruzzi e di Carlo Maratta.
