Celastrina argiolus (Linné, 1758) - Famiglia Lycaenidae - Sottofamiglia Polyommatinae - Apertura alare: Da 2,2 a 3,2 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, isole comprese. - Habitat: Boschi chiari, ampie radure e cespuglieti, dalla pianura sino a 2000 m. - Periodo di volo: Polivoltina con due o tre generazioni con sfarfallamenti che si sovrappongono da marzo a settembre. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Vari alberi e arbusti tra cui quelli dei generi: Cornus, Frangula, Ulex, Rubus, Arctium, ecc. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Vistoso, con la femmina che presenta una larga banda nera lungo il bordo esterno sul diritto delle ali anteriori. - Variazioni: Gli esemplari di questa specie possono presentare notevoli variazioni nelle dimensioni delle ali con casi di nanismo sia nei maschi che nelle femmine.
