La casa automobilistica inglese Jaguar venne fondata nel 1945 dal designer ed imprenditore William Lyons (1902 – 1985) che precedentemente... nel 1921... aveva dato vita alla Swallow Sidecar Company (poi diventata Standard Swallow Cars Limited). Dopo aver attraversato diverse vicissitudini nel 2008 la Jaguar entrò a far parte dell'indiana Tata Motors. La Jaguar C Type venne costruita dal 1951 al 1953 in 48 esemplari e progettualmente era nata come evoluzione sportiva della Jaguar XK 120 dove la C aggiunta nell sigla stava per “Competition”. Descritta come una Spyder in realtà la vettura è una Barchetta in quanto non è dotata di alcun tipo di capote a protezione dell'equipaggio. Per contenere il peso la carrozzeria era in alluminio mentre sul telaio di tipo tubolare in acciaio venne montato un motore di 3442 cm3 con 6 cilindri in linea derivato da quello della Jaguar XK 120 e dove la potenza era stata portata inizialmente a 205 cavalli… ma poi crebbe ancora dopo l'adozione di carburatori a doppio corpo facendo raggiungere alla vettura una velocità massima prossima ai 232 chilometri orari. Nel 1951 condotta da Peter Walker e Peter Whithead e nel 1953 guidata da Duncan Hamilton e Tony Rolt la C Type si aggiudicò la prestigiosa 24 Ore di Le Mans ottenendo in questa 2° vittoria una media oraria di oltre 170 chilometri: ciò era molto dovuto al fatto che la vettura era la prima dotata di freni a disco… messi a punto dalla collaborazione della Jaguar con la Dunlop… e che le consentivano un miglior controllo della guida alla alte velocità. Se già nel corso degli anni passati erano state prodotte alcune repliche della C Type da aziende esterne… nel 2021 viene deciso di produrre 8 nuove C Type per il mercato collezionistico nello stabilimento Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works situato a Coventry (GB)… dove tutta le lavorazioni vengono eseguite manualmente come si faceva un tempo. Attualmente... una delle poche C Type d'epoca rimaste e se ben conservata… ha un buon valore sul mercato collezionistico: nel 2014 un'esemplare di questa Barchetta è stato battuto ad un'asta per 3 milioni e 519 mila euro.
