Uno dei soggetti più affascinanti e conosciuti del cielo boreale: La galassia vortice M51. In realtà abbiamo di fronte due galassie interagenti, M51 (NGC 5194 o Vortice) e NGC 5195. La luce di queste due meraviglie cosmiche ha impiegato circa 31 milioni di anni per raggiungere il sensore della mia camera di ripresa, e lo ha fatto viaggiando alla velocità di 300.000 Km/s. L'immagine, a largo campo, è stata ottenuta col Celestron RASA 8 (400mm f/2) e la camera di ripresa ASI 183 MC-Pro. L'immagine è il risultato dell'integrazione di 60 scatti da 120 secondi ciascuno. 400mm di focale sono pochino per un oggetto dalle dimensioni apparenti così ridotte, ma è un oggetto peculiare che mi ha affascinato sin da bambino, e posso ritenermi comunque soddisfatto del risultato, certamente non paragonabile a quello di una ripresa a focali spinte.
