Come un museo a cielo aperto la Liguria offre ai suoi visitatori naturalistici la possibilità unica in tutto il territorio nazionale di osservare Timon lepidus, distribuita tra il primissimo entroterra savonese e le colline a ridosso del mare di Imperia e Sanremo. Il sauro italiano di maggiori dimensioni (maschi adulti in media 60 cm di lunghezza per 500 grammi di peso) dalla livrea di tonalità verde brillante con ocelli neri o blu. Il naturalista Ugo de Cresi confida che se è già raro vedere un esemplare, assistere ai violenti combattimenti tra maschi è un vero e proprio colpo di fortuna e la regola principale resta comune a tutte le specie di fauna selvatica: una presenza umana caratterizzata da un rigoroso silenzio. Timon lepidus è predata dai rapaci che grazie alla loro acutissima visuale distinguono anche da quote altissime i colori sgargianti della lucertola. Per fortuna le consistenze demografiche sono buone e stabili e questo inizio giugno con basse nuvole è il periodo adatto per tentare la sorte di scorgere un altro rettile presente solo in Liguria, il Colubro lacertino (Malpolon monspessulanus) un serpente dai colori e dalle squame spettacolari.
