Il Lago di Neves si trova in fondo e in cima alla valle di Selva dei Molini, una valle laterale della Valle Aurina. Il lago si trova ad un'altitudine di 1.860 m ed è caratterizzato da una diga di 94,66 metri, la più alta dell'Alto Adige. Un sentiero facilmente percorribile si snoda anche intorno al Lago di Neves. Tuttavia il Lago di Neves spesso non è la destinazione finale di escursioni, ma piuttosto il punto di partenza per escursioni in alta montagna come anche per escursioni scialpinistiche primaverili.
