La Fontana dei quattro fiumi si trova a Roma al centro di Piazza Navona, davanti alla chiesa di Sant'Agnese in Agone , ed è stata ideata e plasmata dallo scultore e architetto Gian Lorenzo Bernini tra il luglio 1648 ed il giugno 1651 su commissione di Papa Innocenzo X, in piena Epoca Barocca. Quattro colossali figure, sedute in pose contrastanti, impersonano i grandi fiumi dei quattro continenti: il Nilo, il Río de la Plata, il Danubio e il Gange qui raffigurato. Il Bernini, nel suo progetto unitario fu aiutato dagli scultori Giacomo Antonio Fancelli (il Nilo), Claude Poussin (il Gange), Antonio Raggi (il Danubio), Francesco Baratta (il Rio della Plata).
