In estate le vipere si espongono per pochi minuti durante giornate soleggiate e calde, generalmente nelle prime ore del mattino e nel tardo pomeriggio. Dopo anni di osservazione ho notato che gli esemplari melanici generalmente sono i primi a uscire dai rifugi alle prime luci dell'alba e sfruttare il substrato fresco e umido.
