Parco del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga, Italy.

Scattai questa foto quasi 11 anni fa, nel febbraio del 2010. Il mio lungo viaggio nella fotografia di paesaggio probabilmente è iniziato qui. Sono sempre stato affascinato dagli ambienti naturali selvaggi, ma essendo nato nella provincia Roma sono stato costretto a trovare la natura selvaggia in quello che c'era vicino a me. Quando ho iniziato ad esplorare l'Appennino Centrale mi sono emozionato tantissimo per quello che ho trovato. All'epoca, nella zona, non c'erano così tanti fotografi paesaggisti che avessero un approccio contemporaneo alla fotografia. Non c'era quasi nessuno, per essere onesti. In Abruzzo si andava in montagna portando la macchina fotografica (magari facendo anche bellissime fotografie) ma non si andava in montagna esclusivamente per fotografare. Non c'era all'epoca praticamente nessuno che studiava la luce, che lavorava in previsualizzazione calcolando come la luce sarebbe caduta su uno scenario, o la posizione della luna e via dicendo. Non era comune l'uso del grandangolo in senso moderno ed i filtri a lastra erano abbastanza sconosciuti ai più. Non era comune studiare finemente una composizione o usare i tempi lunghi in fase di scatto con l'ausilio dei filtri ND. Anche la post produzione moderna era abbastanza poco conosciuta nel modo in cui si pratica ora. Grazie a tutto questo ho vissuto anni di esplorazione fotografica nel Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso, cercando la mia strada e scoprendo nuovi luoghi senza riferimenti di nessun altro fotografo. Eravamo solo io e pochi altri amici. Abbiamo vagato per Campo Imperatore, per il lago di Campotosto, le montagne del Gran Sasso e dei Monti della Laga con le immagini di Marc Adamus, Bruce Percy ed Ansel Adams nelle nostre menti. Gli altipiani d'Abruzzo erano le nostre Great Plains, le montagne del Gran Sasso i nostri Grand Tetons. E' stata una fantastica avventura che forse non potrà più essere vissuta in questo modo in Italia in un territorio così vasto.
