In quello che sarebbe stato l'ultimo sussulto della Germania nazista prima dell'inevitabile disfatta ogni soldato di entrambe le parti affrontava sacrifici terribili. Il soldato Frankie della 82esima aviotrasportata era uno di loro, uno di tanti. A casa, in un piccolo paesino circondato da campi di grano, lo attendevano il suo lavoro, i suoi amici e sopratutto Rosie, l'amore della sua vita. Nella notte, accovacciato in una buca scavata nella neve, guardava la foto di Rosie e se la stringeva al cuore pensando ai suoi abbracci e ai baci infuocati.
