Pubblico questa immagine della 740.143 attingendo dal mio archivio per illustrare questo gruppo di locomotive che fu il più numeroso delle FS contando ben 470 unità e da questa macchina derivarono i gruppi 741 e 743. Queste locomotive furono fabbricate fra il 1911 ed il 1923 con il rodiggio 1-4-0 o 1'D, avevano una potenza di 980 CV a 45 km/h, peso in servizio di 66500 kg, caldaia timbrata a 12 kg/cm2. Alla costruzione di queste locomotive parteciparono la Breda, Ansaldo, Officine di Saronno, OM di Milano, Officine Meccaniche di Napoli, ecc. Di questo gruppo esistono ancora 37 macchine fra musei, monumentate ed in attività per treni storici. La 740.143 è del 1914, Ansaldo, la fotografai a Pinerolo mentre era in manovra.
