Kirkjufell, che in islandese significa montagna della chiesa, è alta 463 metri ed è situata nella penisola di Snæfellsnes in prossimità della costa nord. Deve il suo nome alla sua forma particolare, che per gli islandesi ricorda evidentemente il campanile di una chiesa.
