Considerata da sempre cerniera tra Rinascimento e Barocco, la spettacolare chiesa di Santa Croce, dall'interno a tre navate, è la più rappresentativa espressione del Barocco leccese, in particolar modo per la ricchezza decorativa della facciata. All'interno, la navata centrale è larga quanto le navate laterali più le cappelle. La copertura delle navi laterali è a volte a crociera, mentre un ricco cassettone copre quella centrale e un'alta e luminosa cupola è situata all'incrocio dei bracci. Essa fu realizzata tra il 1549 e il 1646 dai tre architetti Riccardi, Penna e Zimbalo. "Fonte Arte.it" All rights reserved.
