“Lo spettacolo del mese di luglio per gli amanti dell'osservazione del cielo: il passaggio della cometa Neowise, visibile ad occhio nudo dall'Italia.” “Cometa NEOWISE, visibile ad occhio nudo dall'Italia. Fino al 10 luglio questa cometa è stata visibile prima dell'alba e soltanto gli appassionati dell'osservazione del cielo stellato si sono svegliati alle ore piccole per vederla.” “In questo mese sta passando a circa 103 milioni di km dalla Terra. Ha un diametro di circa 5 km e non si ripresenterà prima di altri 7000 anni" Questi sono solo una piccolissima parte degli emozionanti titoli che hanno spopolato su internet in questi giorni, mentre io mi preparavo ad una delle esperienze più emozionanti e irripetibili nella mia vita da fotografo naturalista. La mia avventura inizia i primi di Luglio, quando attrezzato e felice mi reco ogni mattina in punti diversi della mia città (Prato) con l'intento di fotografare la cometa. Purtroppo però, nonostante le levatacce all'alba e le ricerche del posto perfetto, i risultati si rivelano piuttosto deludenti. Nonostante usassi un 400 mm con moltiplicatore 1.4 la cometa appariva sempre molto piccola. Ho provato allora a scattare le foto al tramonto, sempre in zona prato: stavolta il 400 mm era perfetto ( senza moltiplicatore) . Il problema rimaneva uno solo: non riuscivo a vedere la coda blu di ioni. Finalmente ieri, giorno 18 luglio, mi son deciso ad andare su un monte più alto, verso de nord ovest. Ho optato per le montagne pistoiesi, precisamente mi sono fermato presso l'Osservatorio astronomico di San Marcello pistoiese. Purtroppo però, era stato allestito proprio lì un cinema all'aperto che non permetteva di vedere bene né di scattare a dovere. Indeciso e un po' scoraggiato inizio a girovagare un po'. Poi, anche grazie all'aiuto di Google Maps, ho trovato un posto buio in alta montagna. Da lì potevo vedere di fronte a me "Il Libro Aperto". Questo è il nome di un gruppo montuoso costituito da due vette: Monte Rotondo (1.937 m s.l.m.) e Monte Belvedere (1.896 m s.l.m.). Viste dalla valle del torrente Lima, i versanti delle due cime appaiono dritti e incidenti, con un angolo tale da sembrare un enorme libro aperto. E come per magia… ad un tratto la cometa spunta davanti ai miei occhi pieni di stupore. Riuscivo a vederla anche ad occhio nudo! Via via che il sole tramontava, lei diventava sempre più grande, splendente e maestosa. Da quanto era diventata grande e nitida ho dovuto scattare con il 200 mm e finalmente ci sono riuscito: ho immortalato la coda blu di ioni! In seguito il cielo si è un po' annuvolato ma gli scatti sono risultati comunque soddisfacenti. Ho eseguito le foto con il mio mitico astroinseguitore Star Adventures, compatto e maneggevole. Uno scatto come questo me la ricorderò per sempre anche perché sono consapevole che uno spettacolo del genere non si ripeterà più… per almeno 7000 anni!
