Sono molto contento di questa immagine perchè essa racchiude molto cose che per me rappresentano l'Islanda. La cima al centro è la più alta vetta d'Islanda, Hvannadalshnjúkur che è la sommità del grande vulcano Öræfajökull. Ricordo un giorno di Giugno del 2019 quando vidi da lì sopra il ghiacciaio che riempiva l'enorme caldera del vulcano, solcato da crepacci concentrici. A nord di esso il bianco deserto di ghiaccio della calotta del Vatnajökull risplendeva nel cielo blu cobaldo in quella calda giornata d'estate. Scendendo in basso nell'immagine si vedono due lingue di ghiaccio: Virkisjökull sulla sinistra e Falljökull sulla destra. Su quest'ultima ho accompagnato negli ultimi anni centinaia di persone, esplorando seracchi e crepacci, nel vento e nella pioggia, nel sole e nelle luci calde dei gelidi tramonti invernali. E per finire la costa della montagna a sinistra dell'immagine mostra i colori meravigliosi dell'autunno islandese, per me la più bella stagione in assoluto.
