Questo splendido esemplare di Ficus macrophylla si trova all'interno della Villa Bellini a Catania. Impiantato nel 1860, il suo imponente apparato radicale si estende per una superfice grandissima, da moltissimi anni offre riparo dalla calura estiva ai catanesi che siedono sulle sue radici. Anche mio padre, ora 85enne, mi racconta che spesso uscito da scuola ,(l'Istituto Commerciale De Felice si trova a pochi passi) da ragazzo spesso si sedeva alla sua ombra ed era già maestoso come ora. Peccato che nel tempo molti abbiano lasciato dei segni sulla corteccia. Un patriarca che andrebbe sicuramente tutelato di più.
