La Mercedes Benz 300 SL (Sport Leicht = Sport Leggera) venne costruita dal 1954 al 1957 in versione Coupè per essere poi sostituita dalla versione Roadster (in produzione dal 1957 al 1963). Progettata dall'ingegnere Rudolf Uhlenhaut e curata nell'estetica da Karl Wilfert e Friedrich Geiger... si prese l'appellativo di "Gullwing" cioè "Ali di Gabbiano" per la scelta di come aprire le portiere... una scelta che verrà seguita nel tempo fino ai giorni nostri. La vettura era dotata di un motore con 6 cilindri in linea di 3000 cm3 erogante 215 cavalli di potenza che portavano la vettura a raggiungere la velocità massima di 258 chilometri orari: vi era la possibilità di ordinare la vettura scegliendo tra 5 varianti per i rapporti del cambio di velocità. Nella fotografia qui visibile si può notare Massimo "Miki" Biasion in veste di navigatore. Biasion (classe 1958) è stato un vittorioso pilota sia nei rally che nei raid. Vinse il Campionato del Mondo Rally negli anni 1988 e 1989 a bordo di una Lancia Delta Integrale e eempre nel 1988 a bordo di una Alfa Romeo 75 Evoluzione... in coppia con l'ex pilota di Formula 1 Riccardo Patrese... si aggiudicò pure il Giro Automobilistico d'Italia. Passato ai raid a bordo di un camion Iveco Eurocargo vinse la Coppa del Mondo Tout Terrain negli anni 1998 e 1999.
