Il pettirosso è un uccellino canoro passeriforme della famiglia dei Muscicapidae, molto comune in Europa. Gli esemplari di pettirosso vivono soprattutto nei boschi di conifere ma non è raro incontrare uno di questi volatili in altri habitat, anche urbani, magari nascosti tra le chiome di alberi e siepi, o tra le foglie di edera. Il piumaggio del pettirosso è prevalentemente marrone, tranne che nella zona del ventre che è bianco. Gli esemplari adulti presentano la caratteristica colorazione rosso-arancio sul petto e sulla fronte, assente nei giovani. Classificato da Linneo con il nome di Erithacus rubecula, il pettirosso è piccolo esemplare che può raggiungere una lunghezza di circa 14 centimetri, con un'apertura alare di una ventina di centimetri e un peso che arriva a stento ai 20 grammi.
