Foro ovale. Costituisce uno scenario sicuramente affascinante, questa grande piazza colonnata, un inusuale foro ellittico in buono stato di conservazione. Parecchie delle colonne che lo attorniano sono state riposizionate grazie all'utilizzo dell'esercito, che ha ripristinato la stupefacente scenografia di questo ampio spazio colonnato, che si prolunga elegantemente nel rettilineo del Cardo Maximus pure colonnato. L'ampia spianata quasi ovale, che misura 90 metri nella sua parte più lunga e 80 metri nella parte più larga e si estende ai piedi dell'altura su cui svetta il tempio di Zeus è tutta lastricata in pietra calcarea. La parte centrale evidenzia una lastricatura ovoidale più antica, che si dice costituisse la primitiva piazza, di dimensioni ridotte, appartenente alla precedente città greca; l'espansione successiva della città romana portò alla necessità di un suo ampliamento alle dimensioni attuali. Le colonne che la circondano hanno capitelli ionici del I secolo d.C., sui quali corre per tutto il perimetro un architrave decorato. Nella zona centrale più antica vi sono le fondamenta di una struttura quadrata, che si pensa fosse la base di un monumento, che nel VII secolo fu convertito in fontana.
