Castelforte, la collina salentina prossima al comune di Taviano (in agro di Racale), che fu sede di una importante quanto misconosciuta opera edilizia ormai abbandonata da decenni. Al vertice del terrapieno, nel 1952, il dott. Giannì, illuminato medico tavianese, ebbe l’intuizione di realizzare un intero “villaggio climatico” all’interno del quale alloggiare una istituzione mirata al ricovero ed all’assistenza dei più sfortunati tra madri e figli depauperati dalla guerra da poco terminata. Il “Centro per la Madre ed il Fanciullo” non vide mai la luce, in parte anche per la prematura morte del dott. Giannì e nonostante i tentativi di riconversione in “Centro Artistico e Culturale” prima, un piccolo periodo dove si svolgeva “attività di ristorazione” e infine “Centro per Anziani”. Su di un’area di svariate decine di migliaia di metri quadrati, il progetto prevedeva la realizzazione di strutture sanitarie ricettive, ricreative e di vita sociale le più disparate. All’intuizione professionale, il dott. Giannì seppe unire un notevole estro artistico grazie al quale l’intero villaggio, ancora oggi, appare come un incantato recesso ricco di guglie, maioliche, porticati istoriati, minareti, torri e vetrate policrome.
