Nata per contrastare le abbondanti vendite delle Mini Cooper sul suolo italiano... l'Autobianchi A 112 venne prodotta dal 1968 al 1986 in 8 Serie e nell'arco degli anni in diversi allestimenti: Normale, Elegant, Junior, Elite, LX ed Abarth. Solo l'Ottava Serie venne prodotta con un'unico allestimento e senza più la versione Abarth. Inizialmente era dotata di un motore a 4 cilindri in linea derivato da quello della Fiat 850 Special di 903 cm3 e 44 cavalli di potenza che divennero 47 quando nel 1971 venne adottata la versione montata sulla nuova Fiat 127. Poi... con la nascita delle versioni Elite ed LX (questa nella fotografia) la cilindrata crebbe a 965 cm3 erogando così 48 cavalli di potenza. La versione Abarth invece montava inizialmente un motore a 4 cilindri in linea di 982 cm3 erogante 58 cavalli di potenza che divennero 70 quando venne adottato il propulsore maggiorato a 1050 cm3.
