Nelle campagne calde e assolate tra Nicosia e Agira, provincia di Enna, mi sono imbattuto in questo bel esemplare di mucca, credo di razza modicana - almeno al dire poco convinto di un “carusu” lì nei pressi - che mi ha colpito per il suo bel portamento, lo sguardo fiero e per il mantello di un bel marrone-rossiccio acceso. Ma la cosa sorprendente è stata quando, assetato per la forte calura, ho preso dall'auto una bottiglia d'acqua per bere: ho appena avuto il tempo di appoggiare l'anello della bottiglia alla bocca che la mucca era già nei mie pressi, muggendo e scodinzolando come per chiedere di bere anche lei. Un po' intimorito, ho versato dell'acqua nel coppo della mano, porgendogliela. Lei non si è fatta pregare e con forti linguate ha preso a bere mentre io continuavo a versare acqua nel coppo della mano. Ha bevuto un'intera bottiglia da due litri e credo che ne avrebbe bevuto ancora di più se gliene avessi potuto dare dell'altra. Evidentemente, pativa il caldo e tanta era la sua sete da non avere alcuna remora ad avvicinarsi a me pur di soddisfarla, ma tra i due il più preoccupato ero io e non certamente lei.
