Firenze ... luglio 2020 ... Lupi di metallo "a protezione" di piazza Pitti e piazza Santissima Annunziata. La monumentale installazione, dal nome "I lupi in arrivo", si è resa possibile grazie alla collaborazione tra il Comune di Firenze e le Gallerie degli Uffizi e sarà visibile fino al 2 novembre 2020. L'opera del maestro cinese Liu Ruowang, in dialogo e simbiosi con due capolavori dell'architettura universale, Palazzo Pitti e lo Spedale degli Innocenti, induce a riflettere sugli eccessi del progresso nella società contemporanea e sull'atteggiamento predatorio dell'uomo nei confronti della natura. Il minaccioso branco di lupi composto da ben cento fusioni in ferro, ciascuna del peso di 280 kg, è una chiara allegoria della risposta della natura alle devastazioni indotte dal comportamento umano, ed è, nel contempo, una riflessione sui valori della civilizzazione, sulla grande e diffusa incertezza in cui vive il nostro tempo e sugli effettivi rischi di un annientamento irreversibile del mondo attuale. Nell'intento dei promotori la mostra si propone di instaurare un legame fisico, intellettuale e anche ludico con la cittadinanza, stimolando curiosità e partecipazione, così da avvicinare un pubblico più ampio di quello che frequenta solitamente mostre e musei. Lupi in arrivo interagisce liberamente con l'architettura cittadina, con i suoi abitanti o con chi è solo di passaggio, rispondendo così a un preciso intento dell'autore, il quale sostiene che “per insegnare amore e rispetto per l'arte alle nuove generazioni, il metodo migliore sia far entrare l'arte nella vita quotidiana, rendendo i musei sempre più accessibili e non solo. Le mie sculture, ad esempio, sono collocate nelle piazze: così l'arte crea anche un legame con gli spazi pubblici. È importante costruire una cultura del bene comune”. Prima di arrivare a Firenze, i lupi di Liu Ruowang avevano già “invaso” Napoli, dove erano stati posizionati in piazza del Municipio. È la metafora del rapporto uomo/natura. Con la presenza dei lupi di Liu Ruowang nelle nostre piazze – lupi eleganti, dalla chioma cesellata come negli antichi bronzi cinesi - avremo molti mesi per pensare a come contribuire al rispetto degli equilibri del pianeta”. Liu Ruowang (1977) è uno dei maggiori artisti cinesi contemporanei. Scultore e pittore, il suo è un percorso originale collocato nel solco della tradizione cinese, e che amalgama elementi trasversali con aspetti peculiari della sua tradizione. Partendo dalla considerazione che la storia dell'uomo è anche la storia del suo rapporto con la natura, l'artista cinese attinge, da un lato, alla cultura del suo paese e dall'altro a quella occidentale, e attraverso richiami alla globalizzazione, rappresenta la moltiplicazione delle varie identità sia reali che virtuali. La dimensione filosofica di Liu Ruowang è anche una vera e propria denuncia dei rischi provocati dalla perdita dei valori umani, mortificati dal sistema oppressivo della vita contemporanea.
