at 17mm, 30 sec f/2.8, ISO 1600, tripod.

Iso "natives" of a sensor are the iso in which the sensor responds better to the noise, my 5D2 at ISO 160, 320, 640, 1250 have much less noise settings such as ISO 100, 125, 250, 500, 1000 .. . to understand I have less noise at 640 ISO 500.
I suggest a search on the net you click: native iso and the name of your machine.

Make sure the lens is set to infinity focus, I had that goal and the line of infinity was not precise and so after testing I realized that the infinite was a little after the line.

Try to do a little cleaning with a software that allows you to reduce noise and other parameters required for a small photo-editing.

Beautiful photos ..

... hello Fabiogallery,
bought a Right! :-D:-D:-D. Obviously a joke, because I do astrophotography with a Canon EOS 500D and goes to God!
For noise unfortunately the camera. Follow the suggestion of Sesa and you will find the optimal ISO for your DSLR ;-)
Even subtracting the noise via software is not bad. If you're using longer focal lengths and placed not acclimatized might think the sum of multiple images (with a consequent reduction of noise).
Observation about the photo. There is something wrong: either the focus is not correct (what I think) or the optical aberrations of suffering too :-/. In this case, since the objective is bright, try to close a little 'the diaphragm.
Greetings and see you soon, <br />
David

Hello,

I think the problem with this picture is not so much noise as the wrong focus .... I would follow the advice of sesame on to test to find the true infinite. As regards the reduction of the noise would proven during recovery to close slightly (also only F3.2) and PP through dedicated software (lightroom, Photoshop or even just noiseninja). With those I have never had problems, but the proper focus is essential (and tells you someone who has screwed up some photos for this problem) because I think amplifies the visual sensation of noise ....
Hello! ;-)

Hello everyone, thanks meanwhile will try to follow the suggestions. In fact I noticed that the ring of focus continues a few millimeters beyond the infinity symbol, I will do the tests during the day, the night that I made the picture was really dark and it was impossible to properly evaluate the focal point, not to mention of approximately -30 ° .... wow!

I had a look but the 50D seems to indicate that all sensitivity from 100 to 3200 as a native ....

Hello, the focus ring to focus on each goal goes a bit 'beyond infinity because infinity focus varies, not only from lens to lens, but also in environmental conditions (eg humidity air)
As for the picture I think something in post production you can pull off.
Definitely better that you Native iso documents on your 50D, my 7D has the same iso natives of 5D2 (obviously changes the amount of noise because it changes the pixel size), and from what I read on some forums, including the 50D should have the same native iso (160-320-640-1250-2500) and use it definitely makes a difference, especially for high iso.
