La storia di questo luogo e il campanile che lo rappresenta è singolare e a tratti drammatica. Il progetto risale al 1910 e contemplava di unire tre laghi dell'alta val Venosta, il Resia, il lago di Curon e il lago di S.Valentino, dopo l'avvento del fascismo il progetto andò avanti ma lo scoppio della guerra fece rallentare i lavori fino a fermarsi. L'esecuzione del bacino artificiale venne ripresa nel 1950 tra le proteste degli abitanti di Curon infatti il paese venne distrutto per dar modo al progetto di compiersi, si unirono i laghi di Resia e di Curon e di quest'ultimo rimase solo il campanile che emerge dall'acqua. Gli abitanti furono trasferiti più in alto ma la rabbia e il disappunto furono tanti. Dopo molti anni la rivincita ora il luogo è meta di turisti che attratti dal fascino del luogo e da una serie televisiva sta vivendo una nuova stagione di gloria.
