Alta inizialmente 143 metri, con lati lunghi poco meno di 216 metri, la seconda grande piramide al pari della prima era completamente ricoperta di blocchi calcarei di rivestimento. All'interno al di sotto del livello del suolo è presente una camera principale situata centralmente sotto l'apice del monumento. Tale camera fu trovata vuota quando aperta nel 1818 dall'esploratore italiano Belzoni. Il sarcofago di lucido granito incastonato nel pavimento vuoto e con il coperchio spaccato in due parti accanto. Edificate probabilmente nel 2500 a.c., recenti ricerche di archeoastronomia hanno dimostrato che le tre grandi piramidi assieme alla sfinge rappresentano una mappa del cielo così come appariva nel 10500 a.c.
