Parvati, Thank you for the nice compliments on this image and the Coyote cubs. It appears that we are both using the same equipment. I looked through your galleries and was impressed with how well you do with the 100-400L. Wally |

Parvati, I should clarify that. I am now using a 7D and a 100-400L lens for most of my telephoto work but was not when these shots were taken. |

May be the 100-400L is not the best lens in the world but I'm delighted with the result and I enjoy it 8-) May be the 100-400L is not the best lens in the world but I'm delighted with the result and I enjoy it |

Maximusbg. Good observation. Close enough that it made me a little nervous. she was definitely looking right at me. I wasn't sure whether she was going to run or charge. The three little ones I'm sure were her cubs. Thanks for the nice remarks, Wally |

Nymphalidae, He or she was definitely looking right at me. As I said to Maximusbg, with the little ones behind her in the brush, I wasn't sure whether she was going to run or charge. :-) Thanks for the nice comment. Wally |

Hi Wally, I really appreciate this shot, the glance of this animal is almost mesmerizing :-)
Here in Italy (exactly in the North-East) there's a quite similar species, the golden jackal ( Canis aureus ):
Greetings, Mattia

Mattia, Thanks for looking and commenting. Interesting about the jackal. The coyotes that live around us are pretty bold and are not really afraid of people that much as long as you don't crowd them. All of the shots in this gallery of them are of one family, the male, female and three cubs this last spring. It was fascinating trying to get close enough to photo them. They didn't like it much when I moved in close. With three cubs, I was never really sure what they would do. Not sure whether they will come back again this spring. This is getting to be a pretty populated area. Thanks again for responding. Wally |
