Lampreda di mare è presente con una popolazione riproduttiva nel Fiume Magra. Occasionali nel mare. Segnalazioni sporadiche nell'Ombrone (in prossimità dello sbarramento di Steccaia (GR)). Altre segnalazioni, in corsi d'acqua della Toscana, sono state effettuate in Provincia di Firenze . Ogni anno, nel basso Tevere, non è raro trovare qualche esemplare; nell'arco degli ultimi quindici anni ne sono stati osservati alcuni esemplari, tra le catture accessorie dei pescatori professionali di anguille, operanti nel tratto terminale del Fiume Tevere, tra la foce e la zona di Ponte Galeria. In Sardegna l'ultima segnalazione risale al 1973. Negli ultimi decenni sono stati catturati solo singoli esemplari erratici probabilmente del Fiume Magra.
