Pyrgus alveus (Hübner, [1803]) - Famiglia Hesperiidae - Sottofamiglia Pyrginae - Apertura alare: Da 2,4 a 3 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Attualmente presente su tutto l'arco alpino, dalla Val di Susa al Friuli Venezia Giulia. Anticamente segnalata anche in alcune località del cuneese. - Habitat: Pendii erbosi fioriti, da 500 a oltre 2500 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da metà giugno ad agosto. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Prevalentemente su specie dei generi Helianthemum e Potentilla. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina simile al maschio, ma con macchie bianche sulle ali anteriori un po' più piccole. Nelle femmine manca la caratteristica tasca, presente nei maschi, lungo il bordo anteriore (o costa) dell'ala anteriore formata da una piega della membrana alare. - Variazioni: Eccezionalmente si possono incontrare individui con un notevole sviluppo delle macchie chiare velate di grigio sul diritto delle ali posteriori che richiamano Pyrgus armoricanus per la cui determinazione è richiesto l'esame delle armature genitali. Al contrario alcune femmine presentano una notevole riduzione dei disegni bianchi così da poter essere confuse con Pyrgus warrenensis. Notevole è anche la variabilità della colorazione del rovescio delle ali posteriori.
