Vagando con lo sguardo per la montagne innevate che si innalzavano davanti a me, notai, su un versante della montagna più alta una radura, un piccolo praticello coperto di neve, risaltante subito all'occhio in quell'immensa distesa di alberi. Su un lato di quella radura, appena fuori dal bosco, vidi un'esile casetta con il tetto innevato, quasi inghiottita dall'immensa coltre di neve. Quella casetta, avvolta dalla neve, in quella stretta radura circondata dal bosco, aveva un non so che di magico, quasi un'atmosfera fiabesca. Come se, all'improvviso, da quella foresta, percorrendo quella stradina appena visibile scavata nella neve, potesse uscire un gruppetto di nani, asce in spalla, che tornavano a casa a riposarsi dopo una lunga giornata trascorsa nel bosco.
