Domani è CARNEVALE. Visto che ora in tutto il Nord Italia è stata sospesa la festa di Carnevale, a causa dell'emergenza Coronavirus, mi piace postare questo piccolo contributo fotografico A lato del corteo dei carri con il Re Gnocco,sotto le mura dell'Arena, si svolge una festa parallela non ufficiale, ma molto partecipata soprattutto da adolescenti e giovani. A colpi di lanci di farina, uova ( ho visto anche cacao e pomodori) si danno a una festa semplice ma molto allegra. A Verona, il venerdì grasso è detto: venerdì gnocolar. Si racconta che nel lontano 1531 ci fu una grave carestia che portò il prezzo della farina alle stelle. A soffrirne maggiormente furono, neanche a dirlo, le persone più povere. In particolar modo, gli abitanti di San Zeno (a Verona) furono tra i più colpiti. Il rischio di morte divenne una triste realtà per molti di loro. Si narra, però, che Tommaso De Vico, nobile e ricco veronese, prese a cuore la situazione. Insieme a un comitato cittadino riuscì a raccogliere denaro sufficiente a fornire alla popolazione la farina necessaria per produrre gli gnocchi, uno dei principali piatti consumati a quel tempo dalla povera gente. Tommaso De Vico, nobile anche di cuore, nel suo testamento lasciò un'importante somma di denaro affinché ogni anno, di venerdì grasso, venissero distribuiti agli abitanti di San Zeno vino e gnocchi a volontà. Da questo episodio prese vita la figura del Papà de' gnoco che, ogni anno, guida le sfilate in maschera di Carnevale a Verona. La particolarità di questo personaggio è la sua enorme forchetta, portato con orgoglio, come se fosse un vero e proprio scettro da re.
