La Maserati 6 CM venne costruita dal 1936 al 1939 e molti esemplari furono acquistati... e poi preparati... per piloti privati. Inizialmente il suo motore a 6 cilindri in linea bialbero in testa di 1493 cm3... e dotato di un compressore di tipo Roots... erogava 155 cavalli facendo raggiungere alla vettura i 210 chilometri orari. Nel 1938 il propulsore venne dotato di quattro valvole per cilindro e potenziato così... erogando 175 cavalli... la vettura poteva arrivare comodamente a 230 chilometri orari. Fra le tante vittorie conseguite dalla 6 CM meritano di essere ricordate le tre consecutive alla Targa Florio: nel 1937 con alla guida Francesco Severi, nel 1938 con Giovanni Rocco e nel 1939 con Luigi "Gigi" Villoresi. Poi... nel 1940... furono eseguite delle prove con il motore in versione aspirata... senza che poi queste avessero un seguito in quanto... già dal 1939... in Maserati si stava lavorando sulla nuova 4 CM dotata di un nuovo motore di 1491 cm3 con soli 4 cilindri. Questa fotografia fu scattata presso il Museo privato che è allestito internamente allo stabilimento della Maserati sito in Modena.
