Coenonympha arcania (Linné, [1760]) - Famiglia Nymphalidae - Sottofamiglia Satyrinae - Apertura alare: Da 3 a 3,7 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, ad eccezione di Sicilia e Sardegna. - Habitat: Prati e margini di boschi dal livello del mare sino a 1700 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da metà maggio a metà agosto secondo le località. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie graminacee tra cui quelle dei generi Poa, Melica e Holcus. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina simile al maschio, ma di dimensioni leggermente maggiori. - Variazioni: Sul rovescio delle ali posteriori in genere è presente una serie di sei ocelli, ma in alcuni esemplari può mancare il secondo, il sesto o entrambi. - Specie simili: Coenonympha darwiniana che è più piccola e dalla quale si distingue per le maggiori dimensioni del quarto e quinto ocello e per la banda bianca del rovescio delle ali posteriori che, in genere, è più larga e presenta una punta che si spinge sino all'interno della cellula discoidale. Coenonympha gardetta che sul rovescio delle ali posteriori ha tutti gli ocelli all'interno della banda bianca, equidistanti tra di loro e senza contorno.
