Qui mi trovo nello Zanskar, nella parte orientale dello Jammun e Kashmir (India del nord). A metà strada fra Kargil e Padum c'è il Gompa (monastero) di Rangdum, si trova a 5 km dal villaggio, ubicato su una “isoletta” che sembra galleggiare nell'arida valle, a 3.657 metri di altezza. E' un centro importante per il buddhismo tibetano e fa parte della scuola dei Berretti Gialli (Gelug-Pa – fondata dal lama tibetano Tsongkhapa); questo monastero ha circa 200 anni. Poiché non si può contare sui raccolti a causa della breve estate, sia il villaggio che il monastero dipendono da rifornimenti, diversi dai prodotti lattiero-caseari prodotti localmente, allevati nella sterile valle del Suru o oltre i 4.400 metri "Pensi La pass" di Zanskar. Il monastero è stato elettrificato utilizzando l'energia solare nel giugno 2017 dalla spedizione globale himalayana insieme al vicino villaggio di Shakma Karpo. Il monastero ospita circa 30 monaci e quasi altrettanti asini. Pochi anni fa il monastero ha subito un attentato e quattro monaci furono uccisi.. il motivo di questo gesto è ancora sconosciuto
