Non nascondo che sono rimasto sorpreso dalla bellezza del centro storico di Altamura e dalla organizzazione turistica che offre la città. Oltre al museo diocesano all'interno della cattedrale, Altamura ha anche un bellissimo museo archeologico statale (gratuito). Altri musei in loco completano l'offerta. Consiglio l'acquisto di un biglietto combinato per la loro visita. Quando penso che la Puglia non mi riserva piú sorprese, sbaglio sempre di grosso. La cattedrale di Altamura fu eretta per volere dell'imperatore Federico II nella prima metà del XIII secolo. Vero e proprio simbolo religioso, civile e storico della Città è la Cattedrale dedicata all'Assunta. Gran parte della chiesa originaria crollò nel terremoto del 1316 e fu ricostruita sotto il regno di Roberto d'Angiò. La Cattedrale subì altri lavori, o meglio ampliamenti. Infatti nel 1534 fu invertito l'orientamento. Lì dove c'era l'abside, venne costruita la facciata; e lì dove c'era la facciata venne prolungata con il presbiterio e il coro Quasi tutte aperture hanno archi gotici a sesto acuto. Il suo meraviglioso rosone, è un capolavoro della scultura pugliese del '300. Il Portale, gotico é un trionfo di decorazioni e poggia su due leoni posti a guardia della porta della Cattedrale. Sugli archi della porta sono scolpite 22 scene, tra quelle più significative della vita di Gesù, dalla nascita fino alla morte e resurrezione. L'interno è imponente e carico di marmi e stucchi colorati, senza peró mai eccedere e conservando un'equilibrio di forme e di cromie. Sullo scatto: avevo il cavalletto con me ma avevo dimenticato la testa di fissaggio. Mi sono quindi dovuto accontentare di un mano libera con appoggio di fortuna. Scatto leggermente asimmetrico in modo da permettere una parziale visione della Santa Vergine sulla tela alle spalle dell'altare. #chiese #sculture #emozioni #Churces #LuoghiDiCulto
