Via Piccolomini. Una strada che, appena imboccata dall'Aurelia antica, punta dritta alla cupola di San Pietro. Probabilmente, affascinati dalla grandezza della cupola, inizierete a percorrere questa strada con meraviglia fino a notare qualcosa di singolare: all'aumentare dei metri percorsi, diminuisce la grandezza della cupola. La spiegazione? Una e semplice: l'illusione non è data tanto dar cuppolone quanto da ciò che lo incornicia. La strada è infatti percorsa su entrambi i lati da una serie di edifici, e sono proprio questi la chiave. All'inizio di Via Piccolomini l'occhio umano vede un unico soggetto, la cupola, e la sua grandezza è l'unica cosa percepita proprio a causa dei palazzi che lo incorniciano. Percorrendo i 50 metri della strada, invece, l'occhio vede lo spazio intorno alla cupola grazie allo sfondo precedentemente nascosto dai palazzi, e percepisce una dimensione differente. Roma sei unica ??
