E' una passeggiata molto rilassante quella lungo i Portici pavesi con affaccio sul Ticino. E' uno di quei posti che fanno parte del mio bagaglio di ricordi studenteschi, quando si veniva in gruppo a Pavia e si andava a mangiare nelle osterie del basso Ticino. Pochi soldi, un sano appetito e una grande voglia di divertirsi. La città invita senz'altro i turisti, ed eccovi, qualche cenno per invogliare qualche amico/a a visitarla. -------------------------------------------- Per secoli l'antica Ticinum, fondata da Liguri e Celti, è stata il fulcro dei commerci tra la pianura e i grandi fiumi. Qui, in epoca romana, si congiungevano due strade consolari, e per tutto il Medioevo giungevano, risalendo il Po e il Ticino sui battelli, le spezie e i tessuti importati dai mercanti veneziani; da qui le merci arrivavano a Milano. Saccheggiata più volte dai barbari, fu capitale del regno longobardo. Conquistata dai Carolingi e, dal XVIII al XIX secolo, dominata da spagnoli, francesi e austriaci, solo nel 1859 la città entrò a far parte del Regno di Sardegna, futuro Regno d'Italia. Pavia è una città vivace e dalle mille sfaccettature, dal grande amore per l'arte e per la cultura. Ogni anno, infatti, la città ospita mostre di artisti, rassegne cinematografiche e conferenze dedicate alla storia dell'arte. Sempre viva la passione per il teatro, anche se le occasioni di divertimento oggi si ritrovano anche nelle discoteche, nei locali con musica dal vivo e nei pub, luoghi preferiti dai giovani e dagli studenti universitari. Pavia e tutta la zona circostante sono aree di passaggio dell'antica via Francigena, ancora oggi meta di turisti. Non tutti sanno, inoltre, che una delle più antiche università lombarde è nata proprio a Pavia. L'ateneo ha le sue origini nell' 825 quando Lotario I costituì una scuola di retorica. Nel XI secolo la città divenne sede di una scuola giuridica, che l'imperatore Carlo IV nel 1361 trasformò in “Studium Generale”. Oggi la città conta circa 15 collegi universitari, perlopiù di antica formazione, tra cui il Borromeo, il Ghislieri e il collegio Santa Caterina da Siena. (Notizie da Viaggi intorno al mondo).
